Legally Changing your Name
Many people want to change their name, for a variety of reasons. Anyone over the age of 18 can legally change their name, for any reason, as long as their intent is not to defraud or deceive another person.
We can help you with the legalities of changing your name. This can usually be done quickly and at a reasonable cost.
Some common reasons that people choose to change their name:
- They are unhappy with their current name
- Divorce or separation
- To have the same surname as their child
- Marriage
- Adoption
We can help you to legally change your name by use of a legal document known as a ‘Change of name deed’. One of our solicitors can prepare this document, and once it is properly signed and witnessed it can be used as evidence of a change of name.
This option is only available to adults over the age of 18. If you wish to change a child’s name, this can also be arranged but it is a more complex process as it requires the consent of all parties who have parental responsibility to agree.
